Tournament Scheduling Question

Post by JustFishn »

Correct me if I'm wrong. But I noticed that the Bassmaster Elite tournament on the delta is on the same weekend that Anglers Press is having there 2015 Coors light Championship on the delta. If this is correct what are your thoughts on this? We have the best coming out to the west and we schedule a local major tournament on top of this. How is that supporting the industry. I have qualified for the championship and I for one will not fish it, if this is true.

If we don't show support why would BASS come back.

Hope I'm seeing this wrong!

Justin,
Changing tournament dates is a very complicated deal.
I don't know anything about the Anglers Press tournament, but I used to pull permits for a SoCal AC trail, and I know there is a lot involved.
It involves, first of all, calls to the DWF, to see if there are open dates for where and when you want to move your tourney. That isn't a sure thing, ever. There are lots of tournaments every weekend, and DFW only allows a certain amount of tourneys out of any one location on a given date.
We pull our permits in July of the previous year, and, especially with a big tourney like a Championship, there are a lot of negotiations and preparations that begin way before that with the host marina, the sponsors, and all the other related entities, to pick a date that works for everyone. So it is not something that can just be switched at a moments notice.
But I can see how it sucks.
Personally, I'd say go on and fish your Championship. B.A.S.S. will survive without you, and fishing a Championship is a big deal.
Good luck, either way.

I agree. The tournament in question Is the Coors Light championship Which should be an amazing opportunity for all of the anglers that qualified. The Elites are launching from downtown Sacramento While the Coors Light Championship is going out of Russos. With all the water in between there shouldn't be a problem. It's a testament to the west that we can support two major tournaments like this at the same time.
