In need of service - outboard electrical install

Post by bavnuts88 »

Hey guys,

Looking for someone local near Manteca that can help me (or complete for me) trim/tilt motor wiring install. I am a turbine mechanic but when it come to wiring I get confused pretty quick. The thing to keep in mind is I do not have lots of cash so I need help with this hopefully for under a couple hundred dollars, and before the 3rd weekend in Aug. If anyone can help me with this PLEASE let me know and I will bring it to you. I hear there is a guy in Tracy (Quong maybe?...spelling?) but I do not have his info.

-The 4 wires coming from the throttle lever are installed (hopefully correctly). There is a couple busted wire terminals that broke while I was removing the tilt/trim motor from the old boat but that is a quick crimp repair. This motor mounts inside the bilge not on the outboard. Most everything is hooked up but a few things left... like the terminals mentioned above. The hydraulic lines are already connected but will need to be bled of air, I can do this after the electrical is complete.

-Also I have the ignition hooked up and the motor does turn over but only if you hold the neutral safety switch. I was not sure how to mount this in the throttle/shifter lever mechanism so I need this taken care of also.

The majority of what is left is the tilt/trim motor electrical and I would assume this could be an easy fix for anyone with outboard electrical experience. Any help is very much appreciated.

Quick history:

-1984 Mariner 150 on 1988 Ranger 375V
-Outboard mounted
-Throttle/shifter cable installed
-Steering installed
