DQ'd at McClure?

Post by BassNCop »

Did Brian Ruthman and Victor Geis get DQ'd? I just heard they came in 8 minutes late to weigh-in. I also heard they had over 15 pounds! Ouch.

I heard they made it in the bouy line early and kicked back and let everyone else weigh in first , AKA sand bagging, many do it from time to time. But thats what I heard. They are very upset.
They would have had back to back wins.
Again, this is what I heard. I was not there.

I can tell you this....I weighed in the 1st of 2 flights at 3pm. The second flight was at 3:15pm. As I was pulling out I saw a boat come in and I looked at my watch and it was 3:23pm. I do not know who they are by face. I figured it was someone who wasn't in the tourney. I guess it was them! If your late then you must eat it.

Brian told me he came in at 3:16 which was early for a 3:30 weigh in according to his boat check card and why wasnt the boat right in front of him dq'ed also.

There was a bunch of fishy stuff with him tring to sign up over the net, he got a confirmation number, called twice yet still had to sign at the lake. the helper/check-in boat soaked him the day before in a 5 zone.

I personaly think he was set up by Vince and his crew so the circuit wouldnt be dominated.

Vince needs to step up and pay Brian and Vic for winning that event + the Ranger cup money he shorted them for there pedro win.

Vince setting someone up so they won't dominate the circuit is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. Vince blasts the boats off, but I have never seen him check them in. I think it is the boaters fishing the tournament to make sure that they are checked in at the right time.

Joe, there was no 3:30 weigh-in. The 2nd flight was to be in at 3:15. Under his own admission then he was late. As for his card....I wonder if they wrote the wrong weigh-in time on his card at sign in. I presigned online and when they gave me my card at sign in all it had was our boat number. Only other thing is Vince announced many times the weigh-in times for both flights prior to blast off.

I would like to hear something from the staff on this issue? Details and facts would be nice.

I'm sorry to see that someone else was accused of being late who was not late at one of Vinces events. Same thing happend last year. I cant understand why, if a staff member is going to say that you are late, why cant they tell you when you pass the check in boat. Not after the awards when you think your in the money but your not. At least then you can check each others watches.

I think your time should be called out loud as you enter also. I'm not sure it should be this person responsibility to advise someone they're late. Then they get into an arguement and who knows what out on the water. I believe the the person(s) in violation should be notified as soon as possible though.

Any tournament I've fished has had someone at the check in point (aptely named) to heck in. Being that I am not Van Damm, I make an effort to drive close and shout out my boat number. I make sure he/she writes it down and look around to see what other competitior is near by. If there is a dispute, I can remember a wittness. I see a lot of guys just wave to the check in dude.

If someone is running an event with out a check in person, every one can be late as there is no official to check you in. Last week at 100 % bass Melones was an obvious exception (I am on staff) as we had 2 out of the 4 people not show up to run the event. Nobody was DQ'd and anglers were told to leave extra time to get to the docks by their check in time.

With all this said, I have no idea what happenen at McClure. I just wanted to share the way it should be. 8)

Yea maybe not on the water, But as soon as the TD is notified by the check in boat he should approach the team and let them know. Trust me I know it sucks to hang around the event for two hours waiting for a check only to find out that the TD was told you were late. especialy if you had no idea you were late (because your watch was in sync with the TDs at blast off, and was still in sync after the awards) and will never think that you were late.

Tip: Set your watch 5 min faster then official time. Show up on time and you're early!

Dad used to say if you're on time you're late, early is on time.

We talk to Vic and Brian at the tournament. There card said 3:30 weigh in. There was only 3:00 and 3:15 weigh in. Thay said thay were in at 3:23..Which is 7 min late for there 3:15 weigh in. Thay said thay did not here Vince tell every one the weigh in times before blast off.Since thay were at the back of the pack. I personally heard Vince say the weigh in time's sevaral times before blast off. Even thou there card said 3:30 Vince said sevaral times 2 flights 3 and 3:15 weigh in. I think Vince should have deducted a pound per min late from there 15 pound limit. So thay would of had about 8 pounds and some points. Maybe not a DQ. But Joe don't be so ridiculous to say Vince and staff rig the tournament. Thats just plain stupid. Brian and Vic won Pedro and you thinkVince and staff sat around and dreamed up a stupid idea to rig it so thay get DQ after one win in a tour. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.Vince is a stand up guy, a class act.He would never think of such a dumb *** thing to do especially after one win. If that was the case he would DQ alot more. Don't try and put done a top notch organization like the FPT if you don't no the facts. The bottom line is thay were late for there weigh in.Thats the facts plan and simple. Should thay be DQ or Minus weght per min. I dont no,Look it up in the FPT rules before you say dome comments...I'm sure Vince took care of it fair and honest according to his rules. If thay thought for a min that the 3:30 weigh in was wrong thay should of check with Vince before blast off....

If their card said 3:30 then there should have not been a penalty or a DQ. I agree with Joe 100%. Sounds rigged to me. I would like to know how many other teams cards said 3:30? would be interesting. If all the others in the 3:15 flight had 3:30 on their cards then you might have a point. If not then it is more of the same stuff that has been going on for awhile.

If you are one of the last boats to go out I could see how you may not hear or even be in a hurry to launch. (back of the pack) Also if it is there card, in there writing and it said 3:30 on the card then they should have been told as soon as they were handed it.
What a bad spot to be in for both parties.
If I was the fisherman I would still want something. My God they had the winning weight. I think because I would not think I was totally at fault in this case.

I'd like to know how many cards had the check-in times on them. Mine didn't. As for bending the rules such as subtracting weight instead of DQ'd I disagree because that is not what the rules state. "Live by the sword die by the sword". To accuse anyone of cheating is just plain ignorant. I can't believe that was even mentioned.

WOW! WE JUST FISHED A TOURNAMENT SATURDAY AT DON PEDRO, HAD TO STOP AT THE BLAST OFF BOAT TO CHECK AND SEE IF THERE WAS 2 FLIGHTS 3 FLIGHTS ETC. AND MAKE SURE OF OUR WEIGH IN TIME......ALSO THERE WAS NO, NO CHECK IN BOAT TO MAKE SURE ALL OF OUR 37 BOATS WERE IN ON TIME. YET THE BADGE PACKERS TOURNAMENT WENT OFF VERY WELL.

WE ARE FIRM BELIEVERS IN CHECK IN BOATS. AT OUR FALL CLASSIC HERE AT DON PEDRO, WE HAVE A CHECK IN PATIO BOAT, WITH WALKIE TALKIE, HE TELLS US UP AT THE WEIGH IN THAT SO AND SO BOAT HAS JUST CAME INTO THE 5 MPH AREA AND IS IN AT ???? TIME. NO QUESTIONS., AND WE DON'T RUN A ORGANIZATION, JUST A ONCE A YEAR EVENT. LOTS LESS HASSLE WHEN YOUR IN CHARGE AND EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THE RULES ARE AND WHATS GOING ON.
P.S.(IT DOES'NT HURT TO TALK TO OTHER FISHERMEN DURING THE DAY ALSO, THAT ARE IN THE SAME TOURNAMENT).
THANK YOU
JIGS
