New Electronics for my 2000 20ss extreme

Post by MIKE209 »

Are there any new fish finders and GPS units that will fit in the Dash of my
20SS extreme and in the front console by the trolling motor.

Yes, and here is where...

The Lowrance LMS332c would be a great choice for GPS/Sonar in the console (and in the bow dash), and many like the X102c in the bow dash panel.

You probably have a LMS160 in your console dash, and the X85 or similar in your bow panel. These are both the same size as the units recommended above.

(sorry marc)
Actually, i don't think those units will fit. I speak from painful experience. I have a 21ss with an x85 in front and a lms160 in back. the fit is custom tight, and when i upgraded to x135s and lms 332ci, they would not fit in the same holes. the bezel depth and overall depth of the depthfinders are different, and the length x hieght dimensions are slightly different - plus the mounting system in the console and dash make it tough to customize a way to make them fit. It would involve hacking and rebuilding which was beyond what i could do.
I ended up mounting the x135 on hte deck in front of the x85 (works great!) and the lms 332ci will be on a RAM mount where the lms gps antenna used to be. GL

The size of the holes are the same, but as Tommy mentioned there is a clearance issue with the gauge bezels and depth. What guys are doing that want them dash mounted is to cut a foam or plastic gasket (spacer)that they place between the unit and the dash panel so that the LMS332c bezel clears the gauge bezels (just letting you know what others in your situation have done).

hmmmm.. Hey Marc -
Can you describe a little more in detail how that is done? 'Cause i sure would love to flush mount both bow and console rather than have it off to the side.. i was thinking that you could custom fit a 1/8" plastic piece to fit the surface of the console, then cut a hole in that to mount the 332? Pics, if available, would be fantastic...

Tommy, I don't have any photos of this being done. A Stratos owner that lives in Spokane just did this and he said he used styrofoam, and that it worked well. Another guy used high density packing foam (black foam used to pack the pieces of his leather office chair he bought from Costco). I think the high density foam makes more sense, and would look better. He used the thin rubber gasket from his GPS unit as a pattern, and used an Xacto knife to cut the foam to shape, and a file to finish shape it. Doing this he built a new and thick gasket which was just thick enough to all his LMS332 to fit above the other gauges.

Maybe if you made a post on the Stratos Owners website you can get some help with this.
