Delta spraying

I saw the airboat going by today, spraying the primrose and hyacinth.
They were saturating it all the way back to the tulles.
Does anyone know what chemical they're using, and it's effect on fish and other aquatic life?

I saw some big flat boats of varying types harvesting hyacinth over in Sycamore last week. Quite the operation and not much of that stuff any where around those parts, including Tower Park area headed to 7 mile. Impressed, yet lots of fish around still.

Clear Lake had a lot less floating plants too, yet still plenty around for habitat, at least around Konocti Casino and in both directions both sides by 1/2 mile. Lots of grass around.

Got 17 on the frog in one afternoon, fishing it the way Troy, over at Clear Lake Outdoors, told me. Plus another way he told me about got me on them good too. Thanks Troy. You're always a wealth of info and always help me get on them. Got two over 5 too. Fun times.

14 Mile Slough towards the back by the I-5 over pass behind the Brookside Homes has been sprayed about 20 times so far this year. In my opinion it has really affected the fishing back here. I've seen at least three different types of spraying and also air blowing pellets to kill every thing on the bottom as well. This Summer I've been concerned about the oxygen levels since there is very little healthy weed growth back here. In years past, the water clarity back here use to be so much clearer because all the weeds would filter out the soot.

Not sure they do all the spraying, but CA. State Parks, Division of Boating and Waterways. You can go to their website and see the spraying schedule.

Anybody remember when the hyacinth completely blocked off channels and marinas. Whole sections of the bank were basically not fishable. Seems like a situation of damned if you don't, and damned if you do.

I'm not a scientist, but seems to me if there's no attempt to control the hyacinth and egeria densa(both non natives), we could lose a lot of fishing areas.....among other things.

I think you're right about damned if you do, damned if you don't. That stuff can choke off a slough, or block a marina, in a very short time.

There are a few other herbicides they use in their spraying. I forgot to mention. You can subscribe to get weekly emails on the spraying schedule, locations, and herbicides they will use.

The folks from that site have been very open and informative about what they are spraying, where, and when.
They said they are careful to use herbicides at levels that don't hurt other aquatic life.
The Fluridone they sprayed in Sandmound sure knocked back both the hyacinth and the primrose. Within a week it was pale yellow, and today, two weeks later, it's almost all brown and laying down flat.
They left some living plants closer to the actual shore line, and on their website they say they are careful not to kill it all at once, to give fish a place to move as one patch dies.
It looks like they really do know what they're doing, and care about more than just killing off all the plants.
