Re: Happy Senko de Mayo...
On the 5th of may, mexican soldiers raided the city of Pueblo forcing a French retreat.
On the 8th of may, French Soliders retook the city, killed the agressors, and marched on to Mexico city.
Why this holiday is celebrated here I have no clue? That would be like the Japaneese celabrating December 7th??!?!
BTW, Mexican Independence day is September 16th! NOT MAY 5th!! Rumor is France celebrates the 8th of may.

Here's the real history.......
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England.
In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York.
The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.
WHAT!!!! You expected something educational!
COULD NOT RESIST - HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!!!!!!!

Now that does explain
why every 5/5 everybody goes out and buys beer by the "boat loads" and a pack of burgers and buns (for the kids) and then suffer with a hang-on on the 6th,7th..and go blurry eyed to work on the 8th.... Oh thank you ohh Knower of knowledge....
