Delta Advise?

Post by ACP »

Any late night Delta Anglers on here tonight? My son & I fished the Delta today for the first time & while caught a few random fish in the 2lb range we couldn't really get on anything. I'm not looking for spots just a general idea of what to look for since everything looks like it should have fish on it. Should work the rocks, tules, tules on rocks, rocks with grass, deep, shallow, etc... You guys get the point we're lost & I'd love for my son to have a shot at his personal best which is only 4 pounds. Thanks.

The full moon shut the bite down significantly from last week. There are definitely fish spawning and on beds.

Last week I had 26lbs, yesterday, 13lbs. All of those were guarding males, no bigger females.

It was 50/50 reaction bite and wacky rigged plastics.

You've never lived until you've almost died and for those who have fought for it, life has a whole new flavor that the protected will never know....

The fact you caught two pounders your first time on the Delta is an accomplishment. I've seen plenty of good lake fishermen humbled on the river. The more you go, the more you will learn and not even realize you're learning. My style of fishing, mostly cranking and lipless leans me towards rock banks. There's an old saying that seems to always hold true for me. "No grass, no bass". If there are no weeds pull up your trolling motor and move.

Book a guide trip with Bobby Barrack. I've never personally been on one with him, but I've heard nothing but fantastic things about his trips, and guy knows the Delta as good if not better than anyone out there. He will point you in the right direction, and it's almost a guarantee he'll give your son an opportunity to beat that PB.

I've heard Bobby is a fishin machine, fishing sun up till sundown. I've also heard he offers clients the opportunity to stop fishing around 4:00PM or stay until dark with him.

I recommend Cooch. He has a lot more availability than B.Barrack and is great on the water. However, guides aside, fish for bass away from current and near transitions (ledges, walls, banks or cover). anywhere from 6inches to 8 feet is where they are now. the bigger ones seem to be deeper than 3 ft. until they start spawning when the water gets above 65. pumpkin or blue/black senkos are a good option right now
