Hello all,as stated I'm looking for advice on approaching/fishing the Delta. What I've been doing is hitting the tullies first thing in the morning , and or evening then moving out to somewhat deeper water when sun comes up.I've had some success in tullies but nothing consistant after. .O.K heres the question. Should I be cruising around with the depth finder looking for drop offs channels ,weedlines etc. ,then maybe circling back so as to not to spook the fish , and fish the area from a distance , or should I pick out a suspected good target area visually , without even cruising by with the depth finder , then throw everything including the kitchen sink (which is pretty much what I've been doing after the suns up & any shallow bite is off ).Any help would be appreciated . I'm trying to establish SOME cosistancy so my 11 year old fishing partner (son)doesn't loose interrest.
Thanks , Tony
Rookie question!
Re: Rookie question!
for your son sake:
I'd try to stick to slow water sloughs and the marinas in them. rig up a bluegill outfit (small crappie or bluegill jigs with or w/o crawler tips) for you and your son, and cast around docks and pilings for them. especially right now, the 'gills are spawning and you might be surprised at how big the 'gills get. You could also catch a bonus bass, crappie or two, and on light line, it's a hoot! bring along a drop shot and toss it at the end of docks for Bass while your son goes for 'gills in the shallower parts of the docks. once you find a bluegill, there'll be a school there, so work it thoroughly before moving on.
For Bass fishing, it's really all about the season and the tide. Right now it's all three spring phases - pre/spawn/post spawn. I'd be looking for transition areas from deep to shallow areas and targeting fishing moving between those. As the sun gets high in the sky, target the shade - under mats, docks, in the weeds, deep in tules.
but then again, you could just join the 20 other boats that are fishing the west wall at Franks.
