G-man: Xtools culling markers modification

Post by R watts »

G-Man, this is what I did with what I had in the garage. I used some electrical wire conectors and crimped them onto the plastic line very similar to weed-eater line and I have had no problems with it at all.

Randy - Cool pics - so you have had no problems since the mods? I only ask as I have not used the XTools floats, only the scale (which worked flawlessly). I will try this mod out and see how it works. It does look like a lot less resistance than the original design.

Thanks for posting. If we ever meet in the future, I owe ya an adult beverage!!

Yea, I have had no problems since. I think most or all of the problem came with the blue hard plastic portion of the markers that would not allow the fish to move around much.

I'll take you up on the bev. I'm sure I'll see ya around the delta. Somewhere. I'll be at the next 100% delta teams, the Pro-teen event, probably the snagproof, and what ever else comes up out there. I'll try to look you up around one of those if your there.

Randy, that looks like it would work alot better. Its gotta be less stressful on the fish. looks like it is alot more flexable too. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to do the same to mine and see how it works. It sucks to have to check your livewell every 15 minutes to see if the fish are ok, when yor tring to fish a tourney. Again thank you.

Hey Randy,

Tell me a little about those x-tools culling clips. How well do they stay on the fish? Does it stay on a 1 1/2 bass as well as a 8 lber? Is it spring loaded?

I'm just tired of catching tired-looking bass with festering clip holes in their lower jaw. There's gotta be a better way!

fishfreq,

I have used these for some time now and have had no problems with them staying on. There is a specific way to attach them and it is described in the directioins. They are spring loaded and cause no damage to the fish. If you look at the clip there is a small side and larger size on the clip. In the intruction pack that comes with the markers shows how to put them on so they won't come off.

I do like them because you don't have to put a hole through the mouth. I generally would not lift a larger fish out of the livewell holding a marker, wheather it was xtools or the standard clips.

Since I put the different cord on my clips I have had no problems.
