Humminbird 898 and 858 question

Post by bassman97504 »

Just bought a boat that has these two graphs on it. It doesn’t seem to have any maps of the Western Lakes. Shasta looks like a dark hole on the graph.

So I imagine I need to buy some type of map software, ie Navionics or Lakemaster.

My questions
1. Does one of these maps work best with the Humminbird 898 and 858 for west coast lakes?

2. If I have the 2 graphs linked with the interlink, do I have to buy just 1 mapping SD card or does each have to have its own?

3. Is there a certain version of the software I should look for?

LakeMaster hands down, it is much more detailed on the lakes and will allow you to use the special depth shading features which are extremely helpful. I have both brands of cards in my console unit and almost never switch charts although I will say the Nav is slightly better on the Delta for showing tule berms

I had to get a card for each unit and mine are linked.....maybe I did something wrong ;)

I have two older SD cards that wont work w my 1199s so you may want to call Hummingbird to be sure. Otherwise Id say get the newest version but thats just my guess

I just looked at the Lakemaster vs Navionics lake coverage for Oregon (where I’m located) and Lakemaster only supports a handful of lakes in the southern end of the state. Navionics seems to have a lot more options. Seems I may be forced to go that route.

Is there any other quality map programs out there or is Lakemaster and Navionics about it?
