Stratos Re-Power

Post by Andrew C. »

Hey guys, I blew my powerhead (2007 Yamaha VMAX 250 HPDI)two weeks ago at CL while pre fishing for the FLW HS State Championship. Took the boat to C&C Modesto yesterday for official diagnosis. Greg seems to think I threw a rod in #6 cylinder. This is my second powerhead and I baby my motors.
I’m considering a repower. SHO or Merc? If I go Sho will I be able to use my current gauges? A 2018 Merc is 22K without quakes and labor.

Suggestions would be appreciated. I’ve searched the web and have found some deals out of state.

Imo, all the new motors out are great motors. I'd go with warranty and cost as a major factor. I heard Evinrude has a 10 year warranty. I'm a Merc guy so of course I love them and would recommend them. I've had 8 of them, 4 of them being 250's and have never blown one but I'm sure a lot of Yamaha and Evinrude guys could tell you the same story. If you could use the same rigging and guages I'd probably stick with Yamaha just out of convience. Good luck!
