The August 25th, 2nd Annual Fishing for Freedom open at Don Pedro is a 50/50 event. Below is what 50% of the event proceeds go to.
Marine Reconnaissance Foundation serves a small group of elite Marines and Sailors from the Marine Corps Reconnaissance Community. As a public 501c3, it also allows them to help veterans from other services as well. The Foundation connects with the personnel and their families during both their military tenure and after subsequent discharge from services. We started this event to support all those anglers close to us who use fishing as a way to deal with their post service disabilities. As we have grown so have the tragedies we assist veterans and their families through.
On July 1st, we lost another Marine to post service related disabilities. SSgt Saul Carillo was not only a tough and technically proficient operator in the Marine Reconnaissance community, but he was also a proud and adoring father to a son and a daughter, and an incomparable friend to those who were lucky enough to know him well and earn his respect. Saul was a fighter, and he was forced to face many demons in the last few years of his life. Saul leaves behind a 10 year old daughter and 21 year old son. Both children were left to bare the cost of burial due to the lack of life insurance and VA benefits. The cost of the burial has been provided by the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation.
Proceeds from this tournament will go directory to The Marine Reconnaissance Foundation scholarships for children and spouses of our fallen warriors. These scholarships are provided to any college-bound person based on direct familial relationship to a fallen Reconnaissance Marine or Navy SARC for academic achievement, and financial need.
