MARICOPA, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- Thousands of dead fish have surfaced at a lake in a Maricopa neighborhood, and while efforts to remove them are underway, residents are still not happy.

People who live at the Lakes at Rancho El Dorado in Maricopa say they had to make a big stink about the dead fish in their neighborhood, because the fish were still making a big stink.

"The smell is so bad," said resident Danelle Mayfield.

There are a lot fewer dead fish in the lake than they were when FOX 10 Phoenix first reported on the story, but there were still plenty of them on Wednesday. H2ology, the Gilbert company that takes care of the lake, has been removing the fish and bringing them to undeveloped land near the homes, dumping the fish in a pile and then covering the fish up with dirt. The piles will then be removed.
