Best Launch Ramp to Watch the Fun This Weekend???

Post by Ken C. »

So many choices, so little time. What'll it be - The free ramps at Antioch or Pittsburg, Orwood, Baranan Island?

Any suggestions

Dels - It's close to the bay area so you will get numbers, plus the casual boaters who go out 3 times a year (Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day), never start their boat all winter or perform service. Plus it's a steep ramp with limited room. Tempers will flare, husbands will yell at wives, wives will leav the truck in gear and sand the truck in to the river, kids will break rods, drunks will fight. Should be on Pay per view!

Also look in to Woodward, Granite Bay, and any other ramp close to a big city for maximum fun! 8)

hate to say it, but Granite Bay is the place for all the action this weekend...very nice ramp when its not invaded on holiday weekends by rookies and hot-heads.

Just remember to bring your digital camera and post the pictures on the forum on Monday. Maybe we can get some sort of prize pool going for the best picture from this weekend?

I have to second the Granite bay. Discovery Park is another good one. I've always said there is nothing funnier than a launch ramp on a three day weekend. I have seen trucks left in reverse, boats launched without the plug, still tied to the back of the trailer, husbands and wifes cusin and screaming at each other. funny, funny stuff.

Hands down, Capell at Berryessa! I've witnessed divorce, naked mud wrestling, launched vehicles, knife fights, swim lessons (involuntary) topless boat washing (the washers, not the boat) drug transactions, and the occasional actual boat launch.

Not the week end but, 2 weeks ago I watched 3 guys and a girl trying to launch a 14' alumium boat, it took them 30 minutes to figure out that they hadn't taken off the rear tie downs. Then 1 guy is standing in the water pull starting the motor, it starts, the guy in the boat puts it in gear and almost runs the guy over. No pfds ,3 rods, a tackle box, big striper net, and what looked like a bucket of KFC. And me with no camera at the time.

This is an easy one...HANDS Down the best ramp will be at Lake Nacimiento at.... oh say between 7pm-8pm on Saturday afternoon. Drunk city trying to load boats....Why the cops don't hang out there is beyond me.

FOr years they had bleachers there to watch from. You could pick p a six pack at the store and watch the entertainment. The crowd really made it interesting because it added pressure.

My money is on Hogan. This place may be a sleeper for the fishing crowd but it is close enough to Stockton / Modesto to get some real winners.
When we used to live in Valley Springs we would get a sixer on a Sunday afternoon and break out the lawn chairs next to the ramp and watch the fun.
I think the photo idea is great how about a bonus prize if you get some good audio as well??

Hey Dewayne, I seem to recall they had boards with numbers on 'em so bystanders could score launches from the bleachers!

I think that'll be the place for me. Maybe even bring a scorecard! It's prolly a good place to hang, cuz you got the store, the restaraunt with outdoor seating and a bar! Pretty good viewing position as well from the patio.

Now the question remains - do I go watch the morning fun or wait until evening when the alchohol has taken affect (on them, not me  )!

Orwood is the place. I haven't seen it on a holiday yet but Saturday's are a site. My buddy and I pull the boat out around 1pm and grab a beer and unwind watching the fun. I always wondered what the bleachers were for!

All this talk is making we want to head up to the lake with a lawn chair and a 6-pack. Although I think everyone is missing one of the "best" in the foothills, TULLOCH it's sure to be a funny sight this weekend.

"Hands down".. it will be Orewood. Two years or so ago I got off the water just before peak entertainment hr. I got a cold beer and sat in the bleachers to wach the fun. I heard a loud rumble and saw one of those "Pickle Fork" style boats come rumbling in with what looked like a 600 hp blown big block. The driver sent his buddy to get the truck because he was too "drunk" to get it himself,.. as was stated by his girlfriend. Just as his friend finally gets the trailor in the water he starts to bring his boat close and instead of gently tapping the throttle he stabbed it. There he was past the trailor and 1/2 way into the bed of his old truck. All that $$ in fiberglass and paint just to be done all over again....it was absolutly beautiful, I wish I had my camera.

If you come down to Orwood to watch the fun, come by and say hi. It gets kinda boring in that booth and would love to talk to some people. I work from 1-6pm in the "guard shack" Im gonna be sellin tickets all weekend long from 1:00pm and on. So come say hi!! :)

Well, since I'm no longer from the Sacto area anymore Granite Bay would have gotten my vote. But out here, we've got Mead, Havasu, and Mojave to keep us occupied. I'll let cha know how it was. I'm going to try Mojave on Sunday due to it being too windy here tomorrow (40 mph winds). I know I'm crazy, but I haven't been out in the boat in 4+ months since moving here. I've got the itch just to go out!!!!!! 8)

C'Mon Down!! Actually the south end of the Orwood Resort area might be prime viewing... Right at the end of the 5mph zone where the sandbar and the sunken tree are!!! Just as the first six-pack is taking affect and the speed limit is off - WHAMEE!!! Oh to have the Vessel Assist franchise this weekend

Orwood has to be the spot, although I wouldn't throw out Sugar Barge or Russo's..Just about any where on the Delta should draw some "numbnuts"..

I figured Russo's and Sugar Barge wouldn't be that entertainng simply because they do alot of their own launching for the storage customers and therefore "monitor" the ramp a bit more than others. The public ramps are sometimes a riot, but the accomodations are not as nice!

We're going to catch the afternoon/evening action at Orwood in style and comfort!

Orwood also has the bikini factor going on. Nice close viewing, nice waitresses that bring you beers, great seating... what other ramp regularly has cops that show up to check out the action?

Ha ha Tommy's right. Cops do show up there all the time. Ive seen the Shariff car just park over kinda by the store and just sit there for like 30minutes to an hour. I have also seen some other normal squad cars park and watch there. I am working today from 1:00-6:00pm Ill be down in the guard shack. Come say hi, it gets lonley in there even with a T.V. and a stereo.
