Clear Lake Crappie Fishing/Tournament
Clear Lake Crappie Fishing/Tournament
This is most likely the wrong place to post this, but here goes. I am very interested in upcoming crappie tournament and have never really targeted them, but have caught them on occasion while bass fishing. What do I need for equipment and WHERE do I start to try and find them? Any and ALL info GREATLY appreciated! I have access to a boat, so that will not be an issue. Thank you!

For the most part, you can post any fishing related questions or convos here, except for sale of items, which should go in classifieds
Re: Clear Lake Crappie Fishing/Tournament
JL,
Clearlake has amazing crappie fishing this time of year. People are catching around a hundred crappie a day, mostly around docks and just inside of bays. Look for deep water near docks, in 20 to 30 feet of water; fish are suspended in the fifteen foot range. Use your depthfinder to find the schools of crappie. If you don't see fish, move on till you do. Some of the best areas are Indian Beach, Shag Rock, and Henderson. Crappie jigs in whites, smoke or a combination of a white and charteuse tail baits are working, and some are using crappie minnows and having success. The season is just really starting to heat up and should continue to get better. Remember, the limit is 25 crappie or sunfish in your possession, so if you catch your limit and keep all 25, you are not allowed to retain any crappie or sunfish until you consume your fish. You can continue to fish if you pratice catch and release. I hope you can make the tournament. Feel free to call me about the crappie bite anytime. If you would like to sign up for the tournament call Limit Out Bait and Tackle 707-998-1006, and secure your spot before they're gone.
