Crappie Time Tip

Crappie time!

With some stable winter weather, this can be an excellent time to fish for crappie as they head into deeper waters of our desert impoundments and form large schools.

Good producers can be Bartlett, Alamo and Roosevelt lakes. (See an updated artificial habitat map of Roosevelt). https://fishaz.azgfd.com/wp-content/upl ... abitat.pdf

But some anglers will troll jigs with grubs, roadrunner jigs, small crankbaits, and vertically jig with 2-inch grubs without any bites. One problem is that fronts will impact the bite.

Some solutions? Fish the right day (go out during stable weather). Also, consider fishing vertically using ultralight gear such as a 5-foot, 6-inch spinning rod with 4-pound braided line to help feel a light bite. Slowly lift the rod a couple feet, and if you feel anything, set the hook!
