Muse black or Dobyns 908

Post by WC »

Can’t decide between the muse black swimbait mbc86xxh or the Dobyns dc 908 ultra mag. For throwing the mother on. Never once picked up a 13 rod so I have no idea what they feel like. Any advice would be appreciated

I have neither of those rods but I do have a Dobyns 867. I throw my 11” Hiro trout (9oz.) and a few others with ease. It loads up perfectly for long casts and acts like a crank bait rod being parabolic. Very forgiving to the bait also during casts. Good luck!!

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know the bait called "Mother". If you can give me the size and weight of this bait I'll be able to help.

We do very well with our SB rods. Thanks to many of the SB manufacturers recommending our rods as a great match to their baits. Much appreciated too!!!!! THX zdbm2004!!!!

Gary, Roman Mother swimbait is 12" , 10.5 oz glide lure and pricey $400+,
your 867 HSB would be another rod choice to consider.

Made up my mind. Dobyns 908 paired with a Tranx 400hg. Already On their way to the house. Going to be the perfect combo for the giant glide bait.

Well I learn something everyday. A SB at $435 dang :):) Yes, 908 would be the best rod to throw a 10 plus oz bait. Please send me some pics of the ones that eat this baby!! THX to all for the help here too!!!!

908 is the way to go for sure. The handles on the muse black are WAY too short for tossing baits like the Mother, or Hinkle. Not to mention you can't beat the customer service of Dobyns if something were to happen :D .

Good to know about the muse. I’ve only fished with looming, Powell and Dobyns and was skeptical on trying a new flavor. Glad I went with my gut and the help from Tje guys on WB and ordered the Dobyns.

Well, I thought he was CALLING it a "Mother....", not actually NAMING the Bait !! LOL !!!

I'm a little late to the party but I have thrown the Mother on a Dobyns 908 with a Tranx 400 and I can confirm that you are absolutely on the right track. With that combination you are about to be a very happy man!
