On Saturday, March 23rd., the So Cal Kayak Anglers (SCKA) hosted their second event of the season on Lake Murray in La Mesa, CA. 33 die-hard anglers showed up ready to do battle on the 171-acre reservoir. The weather was mild with highs in the 70s, partly cloudy, and light winds. The water conditions were prime for a spring bite with 62 to 63-degree temps and clarity of 5 to 6 feet.

Ultimately, it was Steve Buechner who was able to put the winning pattern together fishing wacky rigged Senkos on the outer edge of the deeper tulles. He reported that he positioned his boat shallow to cruise along the shore and look for beds. He was blind casting in the deeper water to catch the staging fish. He reported catching a few fish on beds on creature baits but the better bite was on the Senko. In addition to having the 85.25-inch winning stringer, he also caught the big fish of the tournament that measured 19.75 inches. For his efforts, he took home $490 and another win on the SCKA tournament trail.
