Hds gen3 and 2 issues

Post by Jason C. »

Anyone on here affiliated with lowrance or knows about the wiring? I'm having a couple of issues.

First of all, I have a hds12 gen3 with 3d structure scan at the console, and a hds7 gen2 touch (it originally came with structure scan and was my console unit for about a year until I got the 12) at the front.

My problems are these:

1) this fuse keeps popping when my battery is a little low. I got a new battery thinking the 10+ year old cranking battery I had was going bad. The problem still keeps happening.

2) my structure scan will work intermittently. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just freezes and doesnt move. Even if I turn it on and off. I make sure its selected to the 3d unit not console hds or hds7(each head units respective name) and then I'll go back to try to use it a few hours later and it works again like it should. I keep thinking use error, but it's kinda hard to mess up when you go from one page to another and it's not working?

3) I cant have the console running sonar, and also run the fronts sonar running separately at the same time. Meaning if I am using the back sonar and I go to the front to use that sonar, i can either watch the back sonar by selecting console hds or run the front sonar by selecting "this unit" or "hds7" but when I do that, the console sonar either switches over to the hds7 selection, or it stops. If I switch it back to console hds, at the console like how it should be, the front one then switches to console hds or stops.

I need help lol

This is a little confusing to address with your explanations. I would suggest going to a reputable boat dealer who is also a Lowrance dealer and have them troubleshoot the issues. The first issue sounds like you could have a bare wire and a short is happening somewhere between your unit and the battery. This could also cause some of the other issues you talk about.

If you are networked with an ethernet cable then the sonar issues you refer to are likely the cause of the ethernet network. I would suggest strongly that you remove the ethernet network and install a NMEA network to share Waypoints and Trails between the units. This will eliminate many of the sonar issues immediately.
