Has this ever happened to anyone?

Post by Quantum_Kid »

My dad and I were out fishing on Sunday, and I was trying out a new popping frog that I had gotten in the mail. We were down in Rock Slough fishing to the bridge from the grating that leads to Franks. I cast to the shoreline, and had just worked it into all of the good stuff when something moved toward my bait (not a fish) I just kept working my frog, and then the thing started to follow my lure! It wasn't until it started to HOP after my frog that I realized that it was a frog  That thing was HUGE! I kept casting to it to see why it wanted my bait so bad, and on the third or fourth cast, it engulfed the entire frog. I lightly set the hook, and was going to bring it into the boat to take a picture, but just as I was about to swing him, he threw the bait– if that is possible :?: The body must have been five or six inches with about eight inch legs, and had webbed feet the size of the top of a can of soda. The thing that I was amazed about was the size of its mouth, and the fact that it even ate my frog...

Just curious...

Hey Scott,
Altho this hasnt happened to me personally. I have heard of this happening alot. It actually probably happenes alot more that you think. This has actually happened to my dad. Also what you will see happen alot is the frog coming up and start humping your frog. This has also happened to my dad. I just hope I can see this for my self some time soon.

fun, isn't it? It happens all the time. I try to catch them whenever I see them - note thier coloration, especially on the belly and sides. You'll then be able to mod your own frogs to 'match the hatch'. I've also noticed that different areas of the Delta, the frogs have different coloration. It makes you wonder why we bother to throw such 'small' frogs! The real thing is at least three times the size of a snagproof.

Some days I catch more bullfrogs than I do bass.

Once, I had a bullfrog eat my frog so I set the hook and pulled both into a small opening of clear water. As the bullfrog splashed around like crazy trying to get my frog out of its mouth, I thought "wouldnt it be cool if a big ole bass comes up and eats both frogs!". Well, 30 seconds later, the bullfrog got off, and as I watched it hop acrosss the mat a huge fish smashed my fake frog which was still sitting in the clear water hole. Well I hate to admit it, but I missed that fish, mostly because I was in shock. I wonder how long that fish sat down there starring at both of those frogs doing battle?

It happens all the time!!!

I had to stop testing my frogs in my pond!!!! The dang bullfrogs wouldn't leave them alone    I have several 6lb bullfrogs in my pond and they are VERY territoral!! If another frog goes into the others area there is a fight to the death..I think that is how they get to 6lbs....and yes I have weighted them..but my wife won't let me cook them

The only frogs that can move around freely are the females, they can move all around the pond, as long as they are willing to put out once in a while    Except for their size I can't see any difference in the male or female frogs, but the big males sure can!!! It's either sex or dinner    What a life...

Happens all the time...now some thing weird I saw once I was throwing one of them giant senkos in pockets and over weed mats so one time a turtle starts haulin @$$ over the weed mat and takes a bite out of my senko. I was just glad he missed the hook because removing a hook from an angary turtle is no fun!

I've had turtles follow top waters (and seen frogs caught on them as well) and do what I can to keep them from biting the lure, but I tell you what, if that turtle is angry, I'll cut the line rather than mess with removing the hook.

I remember a trip on the Kings river once...Tossed a plastic worm out on the lily pads to slide it in real quiet and this GIANT bulfrog climbs up on the pad. He's lookin real intently at the worm, then grabs it with both hands and starts stuffin it in his mouth! It takes him about 10 seconds to get it completely in, meanwhile I'm laughing so hard I can't beleive what I'm seeing! I set the hook and the fight is on! Man, that frog fought better than any bass I've ever hooked! I released him after a very strange unhooking...he kept grabbing my pliers...and he swam away unharmed and pissed. Later that day, we went back past that spot and there he was up on his lily pad. He saw me and started croakin real loud...still pissed I guess! :D :D

Yea, I've also caught a huge watersnake, that bit a blackfrog(heat) and a huge snapping turtle (about 20 pounds) that thankfully got off before I had to mess with it much.

if you think catching frogs with frogs is funny then you will love this. i was out one day at a local pond fishing and came across a bunch of frogs in the weeds. i decided since the bass bite was not good i would try to catch some frogs with a senko. i started pitching the senko and caught a couple. then i got board of it and went back to fishing. i tied on a crank bait and took a cast or two, and got it snagged in a tree. the crank was sitting about a foot out of the water. so then i started yanking on it. once it came free it dropped on the weeds, and something wacked it. so i set the hook, and to my surprise it was this big a@@ frog. i reeled it in and decided i would try to just wave it off the tip of my rod in their face to see what would happen. they just jumped right on it. i mean they slammed it! i caught about 15 that day. when ever i come across frogs and im not having luck i do this. it takes away the lack of excitement when the bite is slow. dangling crank baits for frogs, what a concept. sounds pretty stupid, but its just one more thing to add to your fishing day!

Has happened several times, when my son was younger I'd bring him a live well full of frogs...
The Frogs are very aggressive hunters and will eat other to protect their "Breeding/Feeding" grounds.

Bobby Barrick was giving a talk one day and mentioned that you should watch where the real frog "STOPS" chasing the fake ones...
