California gasoline tax is .47 + .18 fed + 2 1/4% sales tax per gallon or about .65 per gallon at $3 a gallon.

There's no good reason for gas to be so expensive in California. They are simply ripping us off because they can......

It was voted for this year. We had a chance to vote the tax increases down and didn't. So who is ripping us off when the majority voted for the gasoline tax increases? Vote instead of complain.

I voted against it giving me the right to complain. It amazes me the stupidity of voters to continue believing the lies about how these gas taxes are going to be spent on road improvements. In addition, that one single vote doesn't explain why gas in California is $4.00 and it's roughly $2.40 in the rest of the nation.

Politicians can always live up to their promises regarding how that money will be spent improving roads. If you read the fine print only 2 cents of the 12 cent increase must be used on roads. Both my wife and I have government jobs and must stay for now. I'm three years from retirement and she's 9 years away.

Yes, vote yes for no and no for yes. Just dirty politics.
With propositions always look where the money is coming from. The state passed the new gas fee without calling it a tax and without voter approval. The fee started 15 Jan 2018. A petition was started by grass roots and passed to get the vote on the ballet to repeal the tax/fee.
If you vote no it met don't repeal the states tax/fees and yes met to repeal the tax/fees. No votes won by over 65 %, the state won because voters don't read the propositions they watch ads paid for by your tax money to defeat the petition. It's not dirty tricks as much as uninformed voters.

Gas tax and bridge toll hikes. I think most of the voters for these are the ones that ride public transit and felt it would they would get the benifit without having to pay as much as us that drive and pay bridge tolls everyday going to work.

In fact, it is on the periphery that it happens. There are pumps that increase their price because they think it's their right.

You can blame Gov Newsom on the tax, he made the attorney General Xavier Becerra change the wording to intentionally mislead the voters. That was all documented. Newsom is as crooked as he father was. Time to impeach him!

It wasn’t Newsom (though I wouldn’t put something like that past him). It was Jerry Brown. You can thank Brown for shoving the SB1 gas tax bill down people's throats (to put it cleanly). Voters never voted for SB1. Sacramento politicians passed it on their own in 2017 with some caving in/selling out to muscling/buttering up done by Brown and his cronies to get it passed. And you can thank both Becerra and Brown for all the deception that went into defeating the recall effort last year. Can’t believe the dimwits of California fell for it... and also for re-electing Becerra!. He’s one of the most corrupt guys in Sacto. This latest gas tax increase was a part of SB1, and it was known at that time that this would happen. It was in the nitty-gritty of the bill. From what I understand, there will be more to come yearly.
Fishing is not a matter of life or death.
It's more serious than that!

Everyone I talked to before they voted had no idea what was in the bill or what a no vote met, they tend to vote no as a rule and the politicians know that. The 30% or so who vote are ill informed, the 70% who complain and don't vote the politicians rely on.
Way off fishing topics but we all use gas everyday and it's a cash cow for California.
