Multi Species Day Lake New Melones

Post by Caleb.Smith »

Made my way off the river and into the foothills for just a really fun day of fishing. Was able to complete my second Grand Slam (all 3 species of bass) of the year as well as catching a bonus species while out.

Multi species yes but no smallmouth among your catch .
Watched your video and fish you landed and identified as a SM bass had "white " caudle fins , a light blue patch at the upper rear edge of the eye socket , along with individual scattered lighter colored scales on the sides . These features confirm it was actually a Kentucky redeye bass instead of a SM .

I wondered that as well you'd think with the name Red Eye they would actually have red eyes, this one didn't that's why I classified it as a small jaw. Guess I need to do a little fish anatomy studying.
