Rainbow Trout caught

Got a hit and knew immediately it wasn’t a bass on the end of my line. As the fish came closer to shore I couldn’t believe what I saw, hooked into a Rainbow Trout or maybe a steel head? Have they ever planted trout or is this wild species? Was only about 14 inches but fought harder than a farmed trout and had tons of energy when I safely released it.

Many years ago I used to fish Almaden Lake Park for bass from a small boat. I never caught any trout but I once belly snagged a 12 pound carp while cranking for bass.
