suggested saltwater rigging options

Post by okazaco »

i just bought an SW boat and am looking for suggestions on rigging electronics and deciding on what i can repurpose from the RAM mount units on our skiff and Ranger.

Below is what i have to repurpose and what i would like to configure.

4G Radar Dome
HDS 9 Gen 2
HDS 10 Gen 2
HDS 12 Gen 3
Structure Scan Box / LSS -2

Currently have two through hull transducers that i'm thinking of replacing with a Total Scan Through Hull 000-14259-001 on the port side and a Navico Bronze 1KW 000-0106-82 on the starboard.

I'd like to run the HDS 9 at the helm for Radar/GPS and as a backup sonar unit reading primarily from the 1KW and the HDS 12 at the helm as the primary sonar unit leveraging chirp through the Total Scan xducer

Additionally, i'd like to have the HDS 10 mounted at the transom for the guys running the deck being able to watch both the radar and sonar - ideally reading from the Total Scan.

I don't have a NEMA 2000 network in this boat. Do i need to install the structure scan box to be able to share waypoints and radar across the units or can i just daisy chain with Ethernet through the HDS 12?

Thanks!
Ranger 520 / Yamaha HPDI
Wellcraft V20 / Evinrude XP
Farallon 27 / 7.4L Crusader

To begin the Gen2 and the Gen3 don't play well together. The Gen3 will go into legacy mode so it won't be able to share sonar (totalscan with the gen2).
From Lowrance:
Note: If you have a system that includes a legacy HDS unit — HDS Gen2 Touch or older — you will not be able to use Live Network Sonar. Your network will continue to use the legacy mode sonar source settings which permitted the use of only one sonar source at a time
