I know I have said this before on the forum, but thot I would post a reminder since the recent reports have indicated very slow fishing. Remember:
The sun may feel a bit warm on your back in the Jan months
It is however doing nothing to warm the water. The sun's rays are too horizontal to penetrate the water with any warmth. Don't be fooled. Your temp meter won't show any warmth in the water until early Feb, in Nor Calif. Remember, spring didn't come this past year until late March.
By mid-Feb, during a two or three day warm spell, with little or no wind, the AFTERNOONS can be the early good spots on shallow flats near deep water or on sun facing walls. BIG females need the warmest water they can find in the shortest period of time. The big ones are usually the first to visit the shallow spawning areas. A lot has to do with conditions for each year = early spring - late spring.
