Suisun City Fire Department *** SCFD Boat 47- Mutual Aid Update***

At 12:27 am, SCFD received a mutual aid request from the United States Coast Guard for a male victim that went overboard near Nurse Slough, just outside of Suisun City limits. SCFD Boat 47 and Chief 4702 responded to the closest boat launch to the victim at Grizzly Island.

This incident is in the Suisun Fire Protection District jurisdiction and they also responded with their inflatable rescue boat. SCFD built up its water rescue team in 2019 and was able to provide 4 firefighters, certified as rescue swimmers and boat operators by the State of California, to assist in the rescue effort. Two rescue swimmers were placed on Boat 47 and two rescue swimmers were placed on the Suisun City Police Department boat, with one reserve police officer.

On scene, Suisun City Fire Department, Suisun Fire Protection District, Suisun City Police Department, United States Coast Guard Boat 52 and Helicopter 52, as well as a Fish and wildlife boat, worked together to search for the victim.

SCFD stayed on scene until 5:45 am searching for the victim. The victim is believed to have drowned. The United States Coast Guard will be working with the Solano County Sheriffs Dive Team to recover the victim’s body.

We at SCFD are saddened by the outcome, but are strengthened in our resolve to continue to work to elevate our fire departments maritime emergency capabilities. Please remember to always wear a life jacket when boating... it saves lives!!!
