On Saturday, February 29th. 2020, the So Cal Kayak Anglers (SCKA) held their 2020 regular season opener on El Capitan Reservoir located in San Diego County with a record setting 52 boats. The weather was mild with lows in the 50s and highs in the mid-70s. The wind was calm in the morning and then it picked up to 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. The water temperature was 57 to 62 degrees with clarity of 3 to 5 feet.

The fishing was reported to be a little slower than expected. Fish were holding close to the bottom in 12 to 15 feet. The primary techniques were Texas rigged worms, jigs and dropshot fished slow.

It was ultimately Jon Demonet who came out on top besting the next closest competitor by 12.25 inches. His five fish limit came in at 93.5 inches that included the 19.25-inch big fish of the tournament.
