CDFW Emergency Meeting Fiasco

Post by woodistic »

Community,

Yesterday was a prime example of what we as a community and citizens need to do to keep the bureaucrates and elected officials from over reach. I must say I was a little put off buy the childish antics that prevented the meeting from happining but I am understanding that people were/are fed up with decisions being made for us that seem to have relenquished the ideologies of common sense practices. Hopefully this has hendered the CDFW from thinking they can tell Free People what the can and cannot have. I understand that they mean well and are trying to avoid futher issues related to Covid-19 but at the same time 4 weeks into Socialism the angler community stood up yesterday and said not so fast, not on our watch, not today.....not without question!

See this paragraph ..... would seem to be positive news:

“We also want to make it crystal clear that today’s proposed decision was not about banning fishing statewide or locally. We are not contemplating statewide closure. The decision is to help prepare us to work with counties and tribes to make those decisions based on their requests. We are working on a tailored and surgical approach based on local needs and knowledge. We have already received some of these requests. Today’s proposed action was an effort to become more nimble and ready to react when asked by a local entity to act.”

I agree, but there is some sneaky verbiage in this address, if they are given the authority to do this they are also given the authorithy to decide without oversight, for laying out such measures on inland and coastal fisheries. That is the real issue. I would hope they would refrain from abusing this power but we all know it is harder to overturn these types of things than it is to enact them.

This is an example for what I have been saying for years. The CDFW is a political organization. The commission is appointed by the governor where in other states it is run by professionals not politically appointees. This is in no way knocking the Biologists or the Wardens as I think they try to do their jobs the best they can especially with some of the crazy laws and ideas their administrators come up with especially those that are politically motivated. No lead, no dogs for bear (never mind the number of fawns they kill each year), I could go on but you get my driff. I have been trying for years to get a proposition to have the DFAW be run by people who know what ta He-- a Department is suppose to do and support the Sportsmen and Women of this state and not cave in to special interest groups. Just one look at what our hunting and fishing licenses cost and what we get back in return is shocking and almost criminal. I approve this message, Dan

Despite the announcement’s attempt to defuse panic, it just as clear as mud when it states later in the announcement, “Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission was set to discuss whether or not to temporarily grant authority to CDFW to decide whether to delay, restrict, or suspend sport or recreational fishing in order to prevent and mitigate public health risks that may arise when people travel for fishing trips or congregate while participating in available fishing opportunities.” Read closely folks. This transfer of authority removes responsibility.

If they do not want to create reasonable panic and anger from the outdoors community in Cali, they may want to rephrase this a bit.

It is ridiculous that I can’t take my son to a lake where the closest person would be 800 feet away. This is not attached to reason anymore.

we don’t want your local lakes and rivers closed, we need to put big time pressure on this week. You better believe there is a bunch of political maneuvering and pressure from other outside groups. We’ve got to be louder.

Suggestions. Anyone? Anyone?

All the lakes are already closed. All the parks that access rivers are closed.
