June Tournament Brings Bigger Bags to the Scales

Yuma Pro Am is still small, but we are bringing in bigger average bags.

To the Scales

For the second tournament in a row ALL TEAMS WEIGHED IN LIMITS. Wow! These guys can consistantly catch fish. The average size of all bags has increased too with the lowest weight limit being over ten pounds at the scales.

Brian Chrestensen (of Colorado River Boats) and Charles Bowen nailed down first place with a solid 14.75 pound bag and a 3.86 big fish. It looked like they spent the entire day in the main river. I saw them out there first thing in the morning, and again later in the day.

My partner Matt Yates (USMC active) and I took second with over 14 pounds, and Matt brought a 5.95 pound big fish to the boat. A missed fish on a stick worm rigged wacky style was all that kept us out of 1st place. We caught all out best fish on wacky rigged stick worms in the lakes.

The points race for pro angler of the year is very tight. Dave Willhide (of Goin' Fishin' Productions Guide Service) and I are still only 1 point apart. The only reason Brian Chrestensen (this guy is good) isn't making it a 3 way fight is that due to other obligations he had to miss more than one tournament. In the amateur class Charles Bowen (aspires to be a proffessional bass angler) has a good lead, but both Matt Yates and Mike Dobyns have a good chance to overtake him if things go their way in a tournament or two.

Remember folks, this is a low price series that pairs up boaters and non-boaters by random draw for a day of competition on the water. Its a great opportunity to get out fishing with a new friend, and a fantastic way to find out if you will enjoy fishing tournaments. Come on out. Fish one tournament, or fish all season. Fish with new people, learn new tactics, get a different perspective on our local fisheries.

The date for the November tournament was the same day as a Yuma Bassmasters tournament.

Because several of our regulars fish both Yuma Pro Am and Yuma Bassmasters I decided to changed the date for the November tournament to:

Draw: November 3rd
Tournament: November 5th
