help with bantam mgl

Post by Mienace »

I just did a little DIY maintenance on BANTAM MGL and now the thumb bar is very sticky( hard to push down) when drag is set to about 70% and up, but when the drag is all the way loose thumb bar engaged/disengaged fine.
spent hours but couldn't figured it out.

thank in advance

The spline for the roller bearing sleeve might not be seated right.
The drag stack might not be properly aligned.
I would take it apart and reassemble it slowly and carefully.

In order to grease inside u obviously cracked cases so I suspect u didn’t assemble stack right (washers and such) or one of ur pieces came off alignment spline on handle shaft . Take apart and with aid of schematic make sure everything is in proper alignment and in right order. Curved spring washerS must b Installed so they are not laying flat against ea other. Next time u take reel Apart lay pieces out in order so u put back together same way u took apart. Lot’s schematics online if u don’t have.i suspect u did not reassemble correctly . Good luck

Did you try holding the thumb bar up when sliding on side plate and inserting the screws. This helps with alignment of the push rod for the thumb bar. I only have older Curados and this seems to work for me.

There's nothing to hide. Saltwater Bantam MGL is $30 plus parts and that includes return shipping.

NOPE.....you see the OP mentions "sticky"? Dead give-a-way that this was used in saltwater....Corossion is the issue, most likely around the pinion gear.....
