Still home to World Record largemouth?
Still home to World Record largemouth?
Generations of fisherman have vainly tried to break the world record largemouth bass record. This fish was landed in Montgomery Lake (an oxbow lake off the Ocmulgee River) roughly five miles south of the sleepy town of Jacksonville in Telfair County.
On June 2, 1932, a local farmer named George Perry caught a largemouth bass that tipped the scales at 22 pounds, 4 ounces. The behemoth was caught on a lure called a creek chub fintail shiner.

"a Japanese angler is purported to have landed a larger largemouth bass "
Funny how that works. We fish the hell out of Japaneses tackle, lures, and line, but have to add "is purported" to this Japanese angler's catch, even though it has been certified by the IGFA.

The Georgia fish was caught in 1932. George caught it and probably tossed it on the shore and after a little more fishing decided to go home and tossed it in the back of his truck. No telling how many ounces of weight that fish lost. I'm sure it lost way more then the ounce the Japanese fish beat him by. George's fish is still #1 in my book.
Now that snagged 25lber was on another level.

There's plenty of argument and he doesn't hold the record he shares the record per IGFA rules.
The record chase for a largemouth bass is done. Nobody cares anymore. There were yearly hoaxes about a record bass being caught but not anymore. Someone is going to have to smash the record to raise any eyebrows.
