Lowrance letting me down

Post by Rod Martin »

I have had Lowrance since they were a box with a red dot. But have ben disappointed with my Carbon.

Over the next year or so I want to buy a new TM and front and back units, Since I retired to Florida most of my fishing is shallow with a down scan and a good side scan working to 25' all I need

Currently I have a Carbon 7" on the back with total scan ( not working out) a standard depth finder on the front and a minn Kota Fortrex 112 on the front

I WAS going to put a Ghost TM on the front , move my Carbon 7" to the front and put a 12" carbon on back BUT now with my dismal luck with the Carbon I am looking for options and think the less add-on boxes (total scan box) I have to deal with the better.

With out having to buy first and cry later what are some setups any of you would recommend

Thanks

I have not been happy with my gen 3 touch units either. It seems Lowrance doesn't understand or care about the fresh water bass fishing market. The quality and they way work is a let down for $4k+. I need to replace my units and TM as well.

My 2018 12" Carbon is in the shop right now as well.
I have also been a Lowrance person for many years. I left for a little when I had Pinpoints :-), but then back to Lowrance.
Right now I can't afford to Update or change, so I will just have to wait for Lowrance Tech to tell me what the damages are. I already told them I can't afford to just update to the next version, although a great price still not in my price range. If I have to I will take the broken unit back and have guys where I work take a look at fixing it.

We shall see!

I too was a die-hard Lowrance guy !! From the flashers to the paper to the HDS. It seemed ok, but not great. I'm no longer fishing the Major Tournaments so I couldn't see needing all the new high tech stuff, or the price for it !! BUT, after winning a Raymarine Axium 9rv in a raffle, I've become a Raymarine Guy !! And I added a 7 at the bow with a Ducer on the TM. Shows me all I need for fun and club tourneys !! I did invest in an Ultrex tho, but that was WELL worth the investment !

Am looking at the Hook and the Elite TI2 as alternates at less cost.

I remember when there was Lowrance and Eagle both good units but fewer adjustments on the Eagle.

I had an Eagle and it was a good unit wonder about these 2

Very reason I went to Garmins 8 months ago and glad I did. Turn em on and they work...wow, what a novel idea.

Agree.
I was always a HB guy but my last few boats had lowrances and i never changed them out.
Always had issues with it reading right.
The structure scan was the only reliable function.

Currently have a hds 12 touch on the dash, 80% of the time no depth reading from the sonar.
Hds10 on bow 50% of time no depth reading either.
Smh

I have a HB unit on the bow for 360, I always end up just using that for everything when on the bow.

Also never liked how you have to buy multiple packages just to get a function to work.
Will be getting birds to replace them soon.

OP, check out the HBs, any Si Di model.
I've haven't had any issues with HB so far.

You'll love em. My bow graph is an ES7. You can upgrade them free to the Lighthouse III operating system too !!

Thanks Mitch! Was hoping to hear that! I have heard a lot of good things with Raymarine! One reason I decided to pull the trigger on the Elements!

I have two gen 1 hds 10 units and one lss-1 that I can move a cable from either unit and move the structure scan. since I only fish Casitas I leave the structure scan up front as That's where it is used most and I have my mapping chipped in the cockpit unit. I have never had an issue with any of my lowrance electronics from my paper graph to these units (1988). I don't trailer with them on the boat and plan on mounting the bow unit on a new Motorguide Tour 42. I suppose if I fished for money I would HAVE to have a 360 ducer so that I can target more accurately but don't feel the need to pour money on something that was state of the art when I bought it. When my current trolling motor so much as brakes a cable It's going bye bye but that's the beauty of the the new trolling motor.....The transducers in trolling motors have never been equal to the strap on units. Now that some units are brushless that may have changed but in my case I'll stick with what's working and bolt it on and go fishing..........forever...and than get the next state of the art whatever when this all crashes   . I always let the industries sort it out as the cream will rise to the top and the others will be someone else's experiment for me.......

and frankly I miss my paper graph......

After talking with someone from California with experience with Lowrance I'm going to try a active imaging 3-1 transducer to see if that fixes the problem I have.

Problem solved

The active imaging 3-1 replaced my other and gives me a fantastic view of the lake.

Plugs direct into the unit without any additions.
