The Division of Boating and Waterways has received several citizen notifications of large mats of water hyacinth in and around the City of Stockton, Smith Canal, Yosemite Lake, American Legion Park and around the Port of Stockton. The division is aggressively treating these aquatic invasive plants in now their third growth spurt due to unseasonably warm fall temperatures. These plants are reactive to weather – cold weather and frost can kill the plants; plants can grow exponentially in warm weather.
Citizens are encouraged to report large water hyacinth mats via the
AIS@parks.ca.gov email. Photos are encouraged.
Thank you as we collectively work to control these aquatic invasive plants.
