Need help finding mechanic to work on old 2 stroke in Central Valley

Post by ZacktheWop »

Hey guys I bought an old 88 tracker (with an 88' 70hp 2 stroke Merc) off someone from Facebook and shortly after the engine started giving me problems. I had a mobile mechanic come over and take a look at it 4 or 5 times and we could never get it figured out. At this point the motor is not sparking at all. We replaced all electronics on the engine and replaced the impeller. We started out with a bad coil and replaced all of them. When we were diagnosing a misfire we lost spark completely. He came back and installed a stator, a trigger, a rectifier, and a switch box.... still no spark even with ignition isolated. Tried reaching out to a couple of places. Only CC got back to me but told me they don't work on outboards that old.

Trying to find someone around the 209 area that specializes in these old outboards to take one final look before I go out and buy a used one to replace it. With that being said if anyone knows of any local places that sell used outboards that would also be welcomed.

Thanks

-Zack

If it has a kill switch, check that. Can’t recommend a mechanic in the area but you can read this to give you an idea to help isolate/troubleshoot the no spark issue:

Good luck!

Paradise Point in North Stockton is talented. Might need to wait a turn but have always solved my mysteries with the old motors.

Off 8 mile Road on Rio Blanco Rd off I-%. A ramp across the street also is available so they can do on the water tests as well.
