2nd bow mount meter won’t read transducer

Post by okazaco »

The HDS 7 in the bow is too small for my old eyes to work in split screen so I added a HDS12. I connected the 7 to the Ultrex US2 and figured I could just add the 12 by connecting to the HDI mounted on the Ultrex. WRONG!!

All of the individual components work when I tested in different parts of the network. In particular the HDS12 works when I connect it at the console in place of the Carbon. All 3 Gen3 units are running 18.2 and the Carbon is running v20.

KEY ISSUE - I cannot get a broadband or downscan image from the HDS12 when it is on the bow connected to the HDI transducer. I know the transducer is good as it works perfectly when connected to the HDS7.

Secondary issue - I get interference in the form of vertical lines when stepping on the power when using the HDS7 through the US2 transducer. Anybody else experiencing this. Not a major problem as this unit will mostly be used for charting.
Attached is a schematic of my network. Am I missing something?

I have done both soft and hard resets on the HDS12.

Help please

Not sure I’m following your suggestion but I have gone into the installation screen and made sure the transducer selection was set to the proper HDI 93/200/455/800

Yep. Did that as well. That also helped to confirm that the 12 is working with the rest of the network as it will read from the 9 and 16 as well as from the other networked transducers.

So frustrating. No help from Lowrance other than the basics of source and transducer selection that I have already done in the shop as well as double checked on the water.

Have you tried disconnecting the HDS12 from the Structure Scan box ? Also, is the HDI transducer the correct one for the HDS12 ? Have you tried disconnecting the HDS12 from the HDI to see if it will work just off the scan box ? You could also disconnect all, then reconnect one at a time and check each, then connect one, and start adding each until they stop working.

Mitch, thanks for wading in to my nightmare. Yes, twice now while in the water, I opened up the bow console and tried running it both in and off network. I believe the meter is good as it will read the transom transducers from the network source settings and also by swapping it with the Carbon on the console. I know the HDI is good as it works when I disconnected the HDS7 from the US2 (Ultrex) and ran it off of the HDI. I grabbed a 9 pin version while out shopping this weekend just in case the sonar (blue) port was bad, but after running it on other transducers, I can rule that out as well.

Success!

Big thanks to Len.

Going back through all of the Global/Local and sharing switches did the trick. For what it's worth, the issue seems to be that the HDS7 was not set to share. Shaking my head as it seems to have kept the HDS12 from working even though the transducer was connected directly.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and thought starters.
