Postpones Upcoming Lake Shasta Tournaments

REDDING, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2021) – Major League Fishing (MLF) announced today the postponement of three tournaments scheduled for Jan. 28-31 on Lake Shasta in Redding, California. The decision was made after MLF officials learned of new travel restrictions implemented by the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The new restrictions prevent anglers who are traveling from more than 120 miles away from competing in the event.

The MLF events that have been postponed are:
Jan. 28-30: Toyota Series presented by A.R.E. Western Division at Lake Shasta
Jan. 30: Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI at Lake Shasta
Jan. 31: High School Fishing presented by Favorite Fishing at Lake Shasta
Rescheduled dates for these three events will be announced as soon as possible.

Being an inherently socially distant sport, the vast majority of 2021 tournaments will continue as scheduled, operating under COVID-19 protocols to safeguard the health and well-being of all involved. MLF will continue to follow the suggestions and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, public health professionals and permitting agencies.

To all of my fishing friends on Facebook who are wondering what happened to cause the cancellation of the MLF Toyota Series Tournament on Lake Shasta.
The U.S.D.A. Forest Service Office refused to issue our permit unless we strictly adhered to the State Health Departments Guidelines.
Those guidelines Included:
No anglers from out of state
Tournaments or events that involve for than two teams are not currently permitted in California
Limit teams and boats to a household unit
etc.
Clearly the previous tournaments were not held to these guidelines .
Congressman LaMalfa's District Representative Brenda Haynes was a relentless advocate for us with the Forest Service but was unable to get them to waver off of these guidelines.
The real losers here are the tournament anglers and the merchants of the Redding Area. You have the Forest Service to thank for that.
As we know on any given day there are anglers on Lake Shasta from more that 120 miles away and from out of state. It just doesn't make any sense.

No logic to be found. I can’t for the life of me see why the forest service should have any say on which tournaments to allow and which ones to pull. Too much government and it’s not going to change anytime soon. Sad.

The way to get these restrictions lifted is to reduce the Covid cases. Wear a mask, practice social distancing, and live to fish another day.

Mark Poulson is spot on as usual. Yes it sucks we can't do what we love which for me includes fishing, going to the movies, going to a restaurant and eating inside, go to a sporting event, concert, etc. This will all go away once COVID-19 is done with. Stay safe, healthy, wear masks and hopefully soon all this will be a thing of the past.

Guys it’s not about the tournaments or even the fishing. No one wants to follow stay at home orders. Unintentionally spreading the virus as they drive all over the state. The ramps at Clearlake are full on weekends. Most driving in from out of the area. Surprised they haven’t closed down more lakes. Until it’s taken seriously this is what we will deal with. There is one person dying every 5 minutes in So Cal. Vaccines will help but it will take along time at the rate it’s going. Some of you still think the virus is fake and need to wake up.

But quit eating sugar and high fructose corn syrup would bankrupt the politicians, so that won’t ever be advised. Why do you think Iowa has such a high influence on politicians? Corn maybe....Take your vitamins d, c and zinc. Stop eating so many carbs and sugar and you won’t have anything to worry about. Wear a mask to stop Americans from eating so much garbage is the only reason to wear a mask. The vaccine will help, Pfizer sold a trillion dollar in high cholesterol pills now the vaccine. Scott gottlieb went from the fda to now on the board of Pfizer. Wake up people. Your all so brainwashed watching the mainstream media. Getting hooked on a pill or vaccine is a lot more profitable then someone eating the proper foods.

We have had flu since the beginning on man...kills lots every year same demographic ..weak immune , old , pre existing conditions , it's a terrible fact of life. It was just finally capitalized on and the media made you aware of it. This is a simple flu not the killer of the planet. There always been a boogeyman through the years ...war on terror , war on drugs, communism and this is the current one. Just like every school shooting the media rides it like a horse to make you think kids are dropping every second from it. Again if you believe by masking , going into lock down over and over that the powers that be will finally tell you that every things ok ..your sorely mistaken. This only ends when they loose there power to make you scared. High risk folks stay home , Old folks take caution ....Mark hide under your bed, the rest of us have to pay the bills for this country. This is a brutal read. The "facebook yoga mom" influence is another virus that spread in 2020. It's tremendously sad. I would start by encouraging some of you guys to read actual books and not Alex Jones's website. So many of you want a state of Jefferson - look up Jefferson's library and ground yourself in the books he read. That would be a great place to start!
