Looking for best Optimax mechanic in Nor/Central Cal area

Been having continuous problems with my older Optimax, such as, stalls out after being started, stalls out when idling at random times, fouled plugs recently after only 49 hours, doesn't start right away after cranking it takes multiple attempts...I've tried to fix these issues with no luck.

Can you recommend someone who you have experience with and is really good at diagnosing older Optimax motors, mine in either a 2001/2002 model and I live near Elk Grove and willing to drive upward to 2-3 hours to find the best Optimax mechanic.

If you are going to take it to a shop, I would HIGHLY recommend Boatmasters in Livermore! If you are a hands on guy then go to Bassboatcentral.com and post your problem on the Mercury 3Liter forum. They have some really qualified guys there and will steer you in the right direction! Might even save you some $$ Let us know how it goes after you get it fixed!

Don't know of mechanics in your area but if you work on your own engine, did you check the reeds and air compressor?

I always had good luck with boat masters when i lived in the Bay Area. Now living in Sacramento, my go to is Marine Service Center in Rancho Cordova (916) 638-7935. Andy has great service and is reasonably priced.

BoatMasters is a great shop as many have already said, but it is a little far for those of us up in the Sacramento area. As PhishPhinder said above, Marine Service Center is an excellent shop here locally - highly recommend them for mechanical issues. Lastly, Damon Witt over at Bass Boat Works is fantastic for routine service and trouble shooting. He also does almost everything related to a bass boat aside from major engine work...he is also mobile if needed and will come to you.
