Bass N Tubes (BNT) held their third event of the 2021 season on Salt Springs Valley Reservoir (SSVR) in Copperopolis, CA on Saturday 4/24/21. 18 anglers came out to compete in human powered watercraft to include kayaks and kickboats. They battled it out to see who could bring in the heaviest 5 fish limit to the scales (watercraft are equipped with fully operational livewells).

Weather was relatively mild with lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s. The wind was a challenge at times coming out of the Northwest pretty consistently throughout the day with only a few short windows of calm conditions. Water temperature was 65 to 68 degrees with clarity at 4 to 5 feet.

The bite was reported to be mostly soft plastics fished slow with 1 topwater fish reported (buzzbait) and a few reaction fish (crankbaits, ripbaits). Overall, the fish seemed to want the bait either moving really slow or not at all.

Here’s how your top 3 figured them out for a successful day on the water:

1. Steve Lynch of San Jose, CA with 16.17 pounds – fished a single point all day long with a Zoom Watermelon Red 6 inch Lizard and a Yamamoto 6 inch Senko in Watermelon Red wacky rigged. He commented that he was pretty excited to get his first win with BNT.

2. Binh Phi of Milpitas, CA with 14.48 pounds – was keeping his boat in about 6 feet of water and tossing it out into 10 feet. He was alternating between a Lucky Craft Pointer 100 in Ghost Minnow and dropshotting a 6 inch Roboworm in Margarita Mutilator. He reported that his big fish came on the dropshot.

3. Sal Castro of San Bruno, CA with 13.71 pounds – was alternating between a spinnerbait, Roboworm in Ayu color on a dropshot and a green pumpkin jig with red Silicon Valley Baits trailer. He found his fish in 9 to 14 feet of water.

The big fish of the tournament came in at 4.51 pounds and was caught by Wayne Thomas of San Jose, CA. He reported catching it first thing in the morning in 5 feet of water off a floating weed bed with a 5 inch Yamamoto Green Pumpkin Senko.

Next up for BNT is the BNT Open on Clear Lake on 5/8 and 5/9.
