Kent Brown shared the following info on Folsom

I think it is time someone tells us the truth about the water levels at Folsom Lake. This is the reason the lake has not and will not get up past the 397 and has been kept at that level for roughly 2 months. This is a new pipeline project for El Dorado County and as you can see they are working right at the waters edge. They have over half of the available parking at Folsom Lake Marina tied up with their construction yard and they have the ramp and loading barges at the waters edge.

I feel for the many businesses that count on the recreation traffic that Folsom Lake brings them and they have not been told the truth about the water levels and people are hiding behind our rainfall this year. How do you keep the lake within 2 feet for two months? You release just the right amount of water daily and you can see that by the state releases.

At this water level it will leave the launch ramps at Granite Bay between stages and unusable and only the one ramp at Folsom Lake Marina.

Fishing will be great with no boat traffic but many people use this lake for recreation and we have had the wool pulled over our heads!!!!!!

I hear you Kent! See below. Inflows to the lake have been high enough for months to raise the lake but they are releasing water several hours a day to keep the lake artificially low. Totally ruining any hopes of a boating season for the lake. I really feel for the folks who are paying monthly slip rental that won't be used at all. Lake officials should level with the public instead of promoting the lie that the lake is low only because of inflow.

Kent,

The El Dorado Irrigation District is responsible for the intake pipe project. Apparently the pipes and pumps are beyond repair and are needed to be replaced so that water can be pulled from the lake, treated, and delivered to the customers. A stop gap project to replace the pipes and pump in 2010 was done but those new pumps have now failed completely.

The recreational users are always left out of the equation when it comes to project planning. The irrigation district doesn't understand the ramifications economically on the area but should be informed for future projects and we can all chime in by contacting the offices of the EDID.

This is what I found:

Updates on the project and showing a scheduled completion date of "the Fall of 2021" are here:
https://www.eid.org/Home/Components/News/News/3401/26

On their website in regards to info:
Phone or Mail: Call the office at (530) 622-4513 for information, to get on the mailing list, or to speak to a project representative.

Hello - I am the engineering director at EID responsible for the intake replacement project and a frequent bass angler at Folsom. EID has no bearing or influence over water levels in Folsom Lake. Discharges from Folsom Dam are controlled by the US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and set on a state and regional level. Current levels are due to the abnormally dry winter we experienced and lack of runoff. Lake Oroville for example is also experiencing abnormally low levels. A summary of current reservoir levels in relation to their historic averages can be viewed at http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/products/rescond.pdf.

For more information about the Folsom Dam or water level, please refer the USBR’s website https://usbr.gov/projects/index.php?id=74 or you can call their Central California Area Office at 916-537-7100.

Unfortunately, the low water level is actually hampering completion of our project as the barge equipment currently mobilized may not be able to access the higher piers unless the water level increases. We were hoping the lake level will at least reach 408' with increased spring runoff so that we can complete this work, but that is questionable and we are evaluating alternative means to complete the casings over the next few months. We are all hoping for a good winter to avoid experiencing three straight dry or critically dry years.

Bmueller I am calling you out on a BOLD FACE LIE! The EID has PAID the State of Calif to keep the water low so you can work on your elite-ist and entitled residents water grab project. If the water came up then you would need to hire divers to complete your project underwater, You would have to move your heavy equip away from the ramp at waters edge so it wont get flooded and you took over a majority of the parking lot. Many anglers and I sarcastically thank you for causing a man made drought at Folsom and for forcing a 5MPH speed limit due to water levels. I bet your precious EID lakes dont have this same issue.
