American Bass Anglers (ABA) Kayak Series held their 4th. regular season event on El Capitan Reservoir on Saturday, May 15th. Fishing was reported to be quite productive with 20 of the 34 anglers submitting a 5 fish limit and all but 3 anglers submitting one or more fish. The big fish showed up with 15 limits over 80 inches.

Weather was reported to be overcast with wind most of the day. There was a shad spawn early with a lot of fish working bait shallow. Per angler and co-host of the Bass Thumbs Fishing Podcast, Shane LemMon, “It was a free for all. There were a lot of fish caught on all different techniques. Crankbait, jerkbait, jig, dropshot, Neko rig were all getting bit.”

The big story of the day was the colossal 104.25-inch 5 fish limit submitted by Jon Demonet of Downey, CA. The limit included the 23.5-inch Big Fish and nothing under 20 inches. Jon is no stranger to catching big fish and has some pretty impressive TourneyX stats. Out of 16 tournaments, he has 3 wins, 7 top 3s, and 9 top 10s.

Here’s your top ten:
1. Jon Demonet – 104.25 inches
2. Brian Leppke – 99.75 inches
3. Christian Mendoza – 92.50 inches
4. Ryan Ramirez – 88.50 inches
5. Jeff Ventura – 88.00 inches
