12 or 16 Live?

Post by davisd55 »

I wanted to get everyone’s take on what they think is the best set up value wise and the most functional. My current set up is one 12 Live on a BBT Mount at the console, and the same at the bow. I recently added Active Target, so I will eventually add another 12 up front for Active Target. I’m torn between replacing the 12 with the same or just changing out the Gimbal bracket and going with a 16. I like the idea of a dedicated unit solely for mapping, so going with another 12 will allow for that down the road. I also like the idea of the 16, bigger screen, and less invasive. I’m not sure I would be satisfied with splitting the screen on a 16 for mapping. I’m hoping for some replies from those that have done it both ways. All comments and any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

I have had 4 12 Lives on my boat at one time, two at each location and love it. I currently have two 12 Lives up front which is good for the Active Target on the trolling motor. I have a 16 Live at the console and I'm almost ready to go back to two 12 Lives instead of the 16 Live. I like the options you have with two separate 12's and the 24 inches of screen space you have not to mention the many different panes you have to see everything at the same time. I don't mind the 16 at the console since with the processing speed, it is very quick to change screens or the look of the 16 especially since I have Structure Scan 3D on the back of the boat. The 16 really gives me a great look on a big screen of any one page but I am still thinking of two 12's at the console. I always use Bass Boat Technologies mounts which ever way I go and I have two of them on my Ranger Z 521 L right now!

Thank you Ken. I ended up going with the 16 for the console. I too, have mine mounted on BBT Mounts. I like the idea of four 12’s, I just can’t justify it right now. Well see what happens if I end up with a new boat down the road? I may go that way. Tight Lines…
