Boat suggestions.

Post by Javelinman »

I need some suggestions on a new boat. I currently have a 2000 Javelin Renegade 18 with a 2017 Mercury optimax 150proxs. Good boat. Served me well and it fits through my 8’ garage door. The problem is I’ve outgrown it. It’s longest rod locker was 7’ which I extended by fabricating a longer one but it’s still very narrow. Makes it hard to stow rods. In 2000 if you had a rod over 7’ it was a telegraphic flipping stick. I’m looking at a Crestliner xf189 with a 150. Hate going Aluminium though. There’s the Basscat Bobcat which I’m assuming is a Margay with new cap. Last year I spoke with K-pink Kevin Short from Basscat and he said they could get the trailer to 95” wide. Too tight. Does anyone have any ideas on getting a bass rig that will fit through an 8’ garage door opening. Thanks

Keep the one you have. Sounds like you have a really nice boat already. The rod storage issue doesn't warrant getting a new boat IMHO. As far as suggestions I can't think of a glass boat rated for a 150 that will meet your size restrictions for storage. Don't think you'll be happy with a tin either. I sure wasn't.

Thanks. Trust me I am considering keeping it. I had a knee replacement that had moderate success last year. Limits my mobility around the boat. Dual console kinda hinders me. Especially landing larger fish. I can’t kneel to get low. That’s another reason I’m on the lookout for a change. Just don’t see many options out there. Hoping others may know.
