Delta Bass Guys is this a Mink

Post by RJB »

I have seen tons of these over the years while fishing the river and always thought they were mink. I never had seen one with a white face. Is this a mink?

Looks like a ferret but it is a mink as they can have white patches on face and chest.

So are both minks and ferrets found in the Delta? Is one more common than the other?

Looks like a weasel from the white outline in it's face.

That's a long-tailed weasel. Ive seen a bunch of them in the South Delta but nowhere else in the Delta. Mink are all over the place throughout the Delta and CA, like everywhere. Generally speaking there are no ferrets in the wild unless one escapes or somebody lets one go, and those usually don't last long.

This is across from Mandeville. They are burrowing into levee. Our Levee superintendent discovered a hole on side of levee and while checking it out 2 of these ran out right in front of him. One was normal brown and other had a white face which I hadn’t seen before! Thanks for the input guys!!
