A word about buying a boat from a board sponsor...

Post by bryanmc »

I just purchased a new Triton from Nixon's Marine in Walla Walla. I have to tell you guys that Jeff Priester runs a class A dealership.

I started my boat hunt by contacting just about every Triton dealer I could find a phone number or email address for. As usual, the very best prices were from dealers located in Kentucky or Tennesse. I checked with the local dealers (I won't name names, but I live in Redding and Sacramento isn't that far) and they were way ($5k) above the east coast guys. As I was talking to some friends about having to make the 2200 mile one way trip to save $5k on a boat, one asked if I had checked Nixon's to see if they had what I was looking for. I called Jeff and told him exactly what I wanted. He called back in 30 minutes and gave me a price that was not only under the locals, it was $2500 under the best price I could get on the same boat in Kentucky and had better electronics! I even re-contacted the local dealer twice with a chance to sell me a boat, but they couldn't come close.

Only problem was that the boat he had was a dual console and I was looking for a single. Other dealers had told me that if the factory put the second console in, it couldn't be removed without severe fiberglass and gel coat damage. Jeff told me "no problem, we do it all the time". They removed the second console with zero, zip, nada damage to the boat or the console for that matter, in fact, I have the second console as proof.

I went to Walla Walla to pick up the boat last weekend, and although Jeff was delivering my boat and another that morning and preparing to leave for a tournament that afternoon, he took plenty of time to go over everything with me as well as having his mechanic go over the whole package with me. When he realized that the boat cover was made for a dual console and not a single, he had his on site boat canvas shop modify the cover for a perfect fit. You just don't get service like that anymore.

I've owned a lot of bass boats over the years but after crawling over, under around and through every inch of this boat, I can honestly say it's the best rigging job I've ever seen and I've seen some damn good ones.

In closing, if you're looking for a new Triton, Bullet or Skeeter give Jeff at Nixon's a chance to make your deal. I don't think you'll be disappointed

I agree with you 100%. Jeff is an absolute class act. He goes above and beyond to make the out of town buying experience as pleasant as possible. I bought a Triton from Jeff about a year ago. The whole buying process was a breeze. Excellent communication, lots of good pictures, emails retured fast ! All i had to do was drive up there, hook up my new ride and come back home. I as well got the full run down through the boat with his mechanic and jeff himself. All this and i saved $5000. His facility there is top notch as well. Thanks again Jeff

great story congratulations on your purchase.but on tuesday when you discover a problem and you need it by friday for a tournament its tough to ask a local dealer to go above and beyond the call of duty .yes the local guys will take care of you but you are now a customer and not part of their family .last year i bought a new basscat and merc 225 pro xs from galaxie marine.it was one of the first pro xs 's on the west coast.not quite sure how to prop it.galaxie says no problem here's a couple different pitches in 3 and 4 blade props you can try "just bring them back in the condition you borrowed them" tough to do that from a dealer 700 miles away.ya i know 5 grand is a lot of money but if you price out a boat apples to apples i think our local dealers can be competitive .and remember ca. has sales tax you still have to pay david hill

Glad you guys had good experiences with Galaxie. If you read closely, I gave them 3 opportunities to sell me a boat. I understand the apples to apples thing, trust me, we were dealing apples to apples and when you deal in boat price, not "out the door" price tax doesn't enter the equation. As far as warranty service, you probably know that Triton will pay any repair facitilty to work on the boat, not just a Triton dealer. As far as the engine, there's plenty of Mercury dealers to chose from and Calvin at Oasis is one of the best mechanics in the north state.

This wasn't meant to start an argumentative thread, merely a report of a great transaction with a dealer who supports this board.

I did the same thing as you did, only I was buying a used boat. Three years ago, while living in Roseville, Ca, I was searching high and low for a Viper Coral 202. Couldn't find a used one in the state anywhere. Started searching out of state. Checked Viper's website, and found dealer links. Found what I wanted, right colors, motor, etc. Drove up to Tri State Marine in Nampa, Id. Test drove the boat. Loved it!! Purchased it, and brought it home. Denny Burrow made the transaction go VERY SMOOTHLY which helped me since it was a 12 hour trip one way. Found out later that the previous owner had purchased it new in Fremont,Ca. Now, it visit's the lakes in the Las Vegas area!!! Well traveled!!!! 8)

hey there this my first time writing on here. I just recently bought a skeeter I20. i am from humboldt county and I looked all over and I bought mine at the outboard center in arcata. I tell you what it sure is nice to know that if I have any problems the dealer I got my boat from is right down the road. they also were very pleasent to deal with. they made every thing so easy and they have good mechanics. I bought my last boat in redding but it has had all its work done by the outboard center and they did a great job.

lets here from a triton or ranger rep about matching prices so we can keep our money here and continue to support the local people. if it cannot be done it is really difficult to fault a person for being price concious! people live within a certain budget and 5k or even 2.5K can buy alot of tournament entries. It is great when you can work with a company that can meet or surpase a written offer. RR
