HELP: TRIM ISSUE W/ 2000 JOHNSON 150hp outboard

Post by DDG »

Need some help, so my boats power trim was goin out off n on for a few months I figured the relays were goin bad, there was a low pitch buzzing coming from them. They finally went out and weren’t making any buzzing and my motor wouldn’t trim
From the throttle, blinker, or engine

So I swapped out the relays ordered online Johnson/Evinrude oem relays for my outboard.

The new ones are now making the low pitch buzzing and the trim still won’t work, even with boat fully charged.

Any input would be highly appreciated.

Check fluid and sounds like motor/actuator is what is failing.

A couple years ago the tilt on my 2000 175hp Evinrude crapped out. Boatmasters tried to install a repair kit and it didn’t work out. They didn’t charge me for the work and informed me that a new unit is $2k. They had a good used unit they sold me for $500 so far so good.

I know it’s not the lower unit or the actuator

One other thing to check. If you have a trim switch at the bow, you might try disconnecting it and see what happens. I also read that there is a "trim module" that can cause problems.

Could definitely be a problem. Usually in electrical issues unless there is a short or failure of some sort, it could be in the area someone had worked in an area of wiring. Could be a shorted bow switch from getting wet as well. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find!
