BBT tournament Clear Lake 7/29

Post by coyote268 »

Are they actually going to hold this with 100 possible degree heat and Lake very warm? Doesn't anyone realized what happened last year in these conditions especially Fish and Wildlife. Massive die-off's and you can tell by the horrible fishing results this year how it effected the bite. Once the best bass lake in the country now just another lake. Go ahead, blast me but this is wrong.

In other words, Bass Tournament scheduling should be based on lower climate conditions. Of course, this would disregard the fact these events are scheduled 6 months in advance or greater.
Oh, and don't forget about those deepwater fish caught in the winter during tournaments too.

Maybe all tournaments should be held only in the spring when temperatures are optimal.

If more emphasis was placed on fully operating live wells, DQ of bringing in (1) dead fish and fizzing fish you'll see a higher mortality rate in summer/winter events as a result of ANGLERS taking the precautions to assure survival of their catch.
-There are solutions to high water temperatures, and it's the angler's responsibility to protect those fish.

DFG does recognize the problem of fish loss that’s why they have regulations limiting tournaments to 6 hours during the high heat months. All tournaments organizers are required to provide adequate cool clean water for bump tanks and I know BBT is very stringent limiting the number of anglers at the tanks and they are constantly reminding teams about fish care during the heat. There will be some dead fish no matter the organization or precautions taken. The amount of fish loss is minuscule compared to the natural and pesticide caused die off we see every year. Angler education is the answer to limiting fish loss not over regulation and more Government intervention.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against tournaments. I use to fish a lot of them until age caught up with me. I retired and moved up here many years ago so I am very interested in the Lake and the welfare of the fish. I go out after tournaments and have see what the results are of not proper care of the fish, fishing when the conditioned does not prove good for the fish or the fishermen and the dead fish in the tulles. Many fishermen strive their best to care for their catch but if negative conditions exist nature takes its course and we have the loss. This is the worse this lake has fished in many years and I might add, I am not the only one who sees a problem. I'll get off my soap box now but I only want to see this lake and the fishery thrive for years to come.

there is always a high mortality rate during hot summer tournaments ! even with the 6 hour rule ! they may still be alive after weigh in ? but delayed mortality is obvious when you see dead bass floating the next day !
