CDFW wildlife officers cited multiple suspects illegally catching lobsters near Dana Point Harbor in Orange County over the weekend. The California spiny lobster fishery is still closed and not set to open until Friday, Sept. 29. On a nighttime patrol, they contacted three subjects as they exited a jetty and found them in possession of 13 lobsters. A short time later officers noticed two more suspects carrying bags, backpacks and two large dip nets used for catching lobster. During an inspection of the subjects’ gear and receptacles, they found them in unlawful possession of 33 lobsters and one abalone. Citations were issued for appropriate violations. The lobsters and abalone were released live back into the water.
