With the type of finesse jigs I build the 4" twin tail Yamamoto's work the best for my trailers. For regular jigs I build i use the 5" twin tails in colder deeper water in winter time. So its a east choice for me.
The quality of the new uncle josh pork isn't there in today pork trailers. That the reason I dont use it now.

Really depends on where and when. Here at Clearlake in summer a 420 Beaver gets bigger bites. If it’s a slower bite a twin tail grub
Berryessa and other lakes a twin tail grub gets more bites.

That's easy for central valley lakes Pine flat reservoir
Millerton lake Hensley lake and Eastman lake
Mother lode Lake Mcclure and LakeTulloch
Yamamoto 4" twin tail grubs trailers For deep winter time bassin. And using Yamamoto 5" twin tail and single tail grubs as trailers on Hensley and Eastman lakes.
1/8oz 3/16oz. 1/4oz. 3/8oz. Arkie head jigsFootball head jigs. And 1/4 oz. Bullet head jigs. 4,6,8, maxima line spinning outfits 6'6" med heavy rods. Ive got a two color jig ive been building over 20 years now i call it the Millerton special. I built it special for Spotted bass and Small Mouth bass. And I use 3 colors in yamamoto 4"grub trailers for that jig. I build them in finesse and regular skirted jigs its a two color jig that work perfect with three colors of twin tail grubs I use. I have a few of my tournament buddies in Ca.and Oregon that fish them in finesse and regular jigs and they do very well in both winter and springtime.
They work very well at Pine flat Millerton Mcclure Don Pedro New Melones Lake Lake Tulloch Folsom and Oroville and Lake Berryessa and Bullards bar lake Lake Shasta and the Columbia river. And Lakes in Oregon.
I build them from 1/8oz.thru 3/4oz. jigs

Football jigs or slow action jigs = Yamamoto 5" DT in green pumpkin or cinnamon purple 90% of the time

Flippin Jigs - Berkley Max Scent Meaty Chunk in Saphire Blue or Watermelon Redflake (best plastic that resembles pork action) and Yamamoto Flappin Hog 90% of the time.
- JaJa Jigs - Get THUNKED

Plastic or pork
Reason I choose plastic's yamamoto products ready availability.
For application of the the jigs that I build they're a perfect fit.

Soft plastics are far more popular today then pork rind for several reasons, more colorful and hundreds of different shapes and sizes. Pork trailers only has 1 advantage, big bass prefer it. Pork isn’t popular because it’s messy, must be kept wet and only available today in a few shapes, sizes and solid colors that doesn't sell well. Price today for pork trailers is insane. No contest for a retailer offer pork and doesn’t dominate as a everyday jig trailer.
I always use pork every day jig fishing unless just want to catch numbers of bass then plastic gets the nod.

actually was thinking back to days of fishing with Cooch when the question was posted.

Remember the term pig ‘n jig? Well pig means pork rind and jig means a weedless bass jig like Cooch’s Wadda Jig. Cooch fished both but mostly with blue pork rind in the River (Delta).

90% of the jig fish I’ve caught over 8lbs (and 100% over 10) have been with a beaver / creature style trailer. I’ve caught lots of smaller bass using yamamoto single and double tail grubs but not the giants… at least not for me

My pork recipe!
If want numbers nothing surpasses soft plastics with flapping appendages with multiple colors and wide variety of flake combinations.
If what to catch the biggest bass in your lake without using life bait pork trailers is the answer.
Why....it’s like the Senko movements the big bass eat it.
Tom
PS, made a sketch years ago “trimming the fat” to get that special strike response.
