Governor’s multi-billion dollar Delta Tunnel at time of fiscal cutbacks

Governor’s Office forging ahead with the multi-billion dollar Delta Tunnel at a time of fiscal cutbacks.jpg
In response to the budget proposal release, Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, executive director of Restore the Delta, pointed out the absurdity of the Governor’s Office forging ahead with the multi-billion dollar Delta Tunnel at a time of fiscal cutbacks as the Governor portrays the tunnel now as a “climate project.”
“As California enters a year of fiscal cutbacks, we proposed canceling all spending on Newsom’s Delta Tunnel,” said Barrigan-Parrilla. “This proposal (rejected by Californians since 1982) faces an uncertain permitting process.“
“It will waste at least $16 billion dollars that could be spent on actual climate resilience projects like rural groundwater recharging and urban floodwater capture. Every struggling California family knows that money not spent on frivolous things can be used on essential items that help us get through the tough times,” she continued.
“According to Newsom’s Department of Water Resources, the Delta Conveyance Project will produce about 240,000 acre-feet of additional water in wet years only. At a bond payback rate of $1 billion per year, that means when water is available it will cost about $4200 per acre-foot, and in numerous years, there will be no additional water, but the bond payment will need to be made. This is not serious climate water planning,” she stated.

We all see how well the train is going? Just more wasted tax dollars, just to ruin the Delta.

The $$$,$$$,$$$,$$$ dollars should be going into building desalination plants along outer 900 mile coast. How do you think Saudi Arabia and other countries without fresh water supply exist?

I have no problem saying Newsome is wrong, when he is, like with the Tunnels and the Train. Or when he took away solar tax credits to protect public utilities, without saying that's why he's doing it.

I just wonder what makes you say he's the worst ever.
How many governors have you lived through, or voted for, and what made them any better than Newsome?

Sounds like you don't require anything from your Governor except they have a "D" by their name and they don't plunge us into war.

Newsome is screwing up big time. Poulson are you trying to nitpick about who was the absolutely worst governor or what? Gavin has apparently no clue about how much water this state has. He wants to build like crazy to give everyone a cheap home here as well. Schools are performing poorly. Pension debt is out of control. It’s absurd. Tell me I’m wrong Mark.

Pension obligations are going to eventually sink this state. Work 30 years and make sure the last year you work you work as much as possible and then get 90% of that for life and since your bored go work part time at the place you just retired from. What could go wrong?
These aren't $40K a year jobs either. EMS workers make bank with overtime and there is a bunch of em. There was a fireman down south that made $700K for one year and several that made more then $500K. Taxpayers are moving out and migrants are moving in. The only taxpayers that will be left will be Public employees. Good luck keeping your racket going.

The past 10 Governors 3 were Republican and 7 were Democrats, none of the Republicans had an impact on water projects, they were all Democrats and Newson is carrying the tradition forward.
Water is gold in the golden state, without it the economy collapses. Anyone who thinks bass anglers have a seat at this table is kidding themselves.

Sure we have high taxes. Fuel tax has been higher than rest of the country because of Governor Arnold
We also have the best weather and year round fishing opportunities.

You are probably right jigin
The fight may not ever be won to turn around the mess but just imagine how much worse it could and would be if everyone just quit putting up a battle and moved away
It’s tempting but I’m not ready to be run out of my home land.
