Old times

Post by jiggin4bass »

I was going through getting ready to order some round rubber in different grades and colors. And I run across some old living flat rubber
And tied up a football head in brown and old flat wide rubber tarantula leg.

JV a long time ago the good ol days. Just wish the machines that made the flat square rubber weren't destroyed. The stuff they make now isn't even close to to the old living rubber.

Most are made with silicone
I prefer rubber. Silicone does not breath like rubber
I have no confidence in slow fishing or dead sticking silicone

Fred Arbogast used wide flat rubber skirts on his lures before Vinyl.
The tuernacula jig was popular for awhile for vertical presentation in standing timber at San Antonio, looks good Mark👍.
The thin or fine living rubber was frog hair as I recall.

I remember guys that use to tie the old rubber
Regular and fine grade would lay out 20 or so feet and split it put each individual strand in what look like comb and pull the rubber through and tie it and cut it off. They called it production tying.
The rolls came by the pound 81 ft for regular grade 86 ft for fine grade . I would per cut all my rubber to the length I was going use for that day. And depending on what types of jigs I would be tying. I cut in length 2 1/2", 3" 4" 5"
7 1/2"to 8"

They build custom molds i think if you gave a jig head or jig heads you like they will build you the master molds in silicone and you pay for them but there yours. If you need them poured they can do it for you for a price.
There spin molds for production.
And use the hook of your choice.
